How to Make a Professional Camera Slider
Given that modern photography is digital, objectively assessing image quality should be pretty straightforward, right? Wrong.
As recent controversies with scoring objective image data have highlighted, it’s very tough to come up with scores that mean something to the average consumer. To non-enthusiasts, taking a dive into test results can be boring and stressful, and nobody wants that. While the data we collected is much more comprehensive and complicated than what we’re showing here, we picked a few different basic measurements to compare the cameras of our candidate smartphones. Don’t worry, we’ll guide you through what we found without making it any more complicated. No scores out of ten, no hiding measurements behind skewed graphs, just the data and expert analysis from yours truly.
The camera slider is built of solid thick metal and seems to be able to withstand a lot of bad treatment. Also we felt that the sliding was quite smooth.
An additional feature the sevenoak offers is the friction handle that let’s you control friction of the carriage against the rails for smoother moevements.
There are, of course, some limitations. And we’re not talking about the part of the video where McGreggor rightly points out that “90% of things created in post aren’t as good as capturing the real thing.” That part goes without saying.

Sevenoak Heavy-Duty Camera Slider SK-HD120 series camera sliders are designed to give you the ability to create high-quality videos without over-extending your budget. It futures with heavy-duty Aluminum construction, adjustable feet, 1/4” and 3/8” screw thread, precision bearings etc. It can be used standalone with the included feet whose height can be adjusted easily, or attached directly to tripod(s) with the built-in screw thread.
The limitations we’re referring to have to do with the shot you’re using. You’ll need to have your subject dead center of the frame because you’ll be losing a lot from the margins to create this effect, and you’ll need to use footage that is at least 3K in resolution (again, because you’re cropping).
But if your shot matches that criteria, you can take a standard tracking shot and create the dolly zoom effect shown above in After Effects. It’s not perfect, but in a pinch, when you find yourself without a zoom lens, the technique produces solid results.
